Building More Than Homes: HBALS Participates in Habitat's Women Build

On May 12, members of the 45PG-HBALS group had the opportunity to participate in Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter Florida's Women Build, helping frame walls for a new triplex that will one day provide homes for families in our community.

This effort marked the first initiative led by HBA Civic Committee member Leesa Hodges, whose enthusiasm for the project inspired others to get involved. While only a few Civic Committee members were able to participate on the build day itself, the initiative drew support from volunteers, friends, and HBA members who generously contributed to the cause.

Thanks to that collective effort, we surpassed our fundraising goal of $3,500, raising an impressive $5,291 in support of Women Build.

Leesa's dedication was recognized at the official Women Build kickoff event, where she received an award in Dr. Laurie Newkirk's name in honor of her competitive spirit and commitment to the campaign. It was a special moment that helped launch the Women Build season and highlighted the energy behind this successful initiative.

During our shift, our team joined many other community volunteers in framing walls and helping the triplex begin to take shape. It was rewarding to see the progress being made and to contribute, alongside so many others, to a project that will have a lasting impact for local families.

We are grateful to everyone who volunteered, donated, and supported this initiative. Exceeding our fundraising goal demonstrates what can happen when people come together around a meaningful purpose.

We look forward to following the progress of this home and seeing the completed triplex become a place where families can build bright futures and lasting memories.
